Erie Canal: Anniversary 1825

The Erie Canal opened on October 26, 1825, becoming the first U.S. major man-made waterway. It linked Lake Erie to the Hudson River, providing a major method of water-based travel and commerce to take place. The canal cost $7,602,000 in total and took 8 years to be finished.
