While not a statutory holiday, those in Newfoundland and Labrador celebrate a cultural observance with Saint George's Day. As in England, St. George’s Day in Canada commemorates St. George, the Roman soldier and then Christian martyr. While celebrants might recollect his sacrifices and bravery, in Canada this three-day long weekend has also become an opportunity for families to spend quality time together.
