Deeply concerned by the prevalence and high rate of autism in children in all regions of the world, the General Assembly designated April 2 to be World Autism Awareness Day on Dec 18, 2007. Autism affects children in all regions, irrespective of gender, race or socioeconomic status. It poses challenges to long-term health care, education, training, and intervention programs, and has a tremendous impact on children, their families, communities and societies.
Many communities support autism awareness efforts at the local level. Showcase autism supports with a community Who's Who peppered with statistics about autism prevalence and therapy models.
