National Doughnut Day is a special day celebrated in the U.S.on the first Friday of June each year. The event was created by The Salvation Army in 1938 to honor those of their members who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I. On National Doughnut Day, doughnut stores and bakeries often give customers free doughnuts.
Bakeries and doughnut shops can make even more "dough" when they capitalize on National Doughnut Day events.
