The Tug is the only tug-of-war across the mighty Mississippi River or any other moving body of water in the world. For two hours barge traffic, pleasure boats and gambling and paddle boats yield the right of way to a 400-foot, 680-pound rope that stretches between Illinois and Iowa. Festivals take place on both sides of the river, followed by a fireworks display.
