"Casablanca" was a hit movie of the 1940s starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman, telling the tale of a cynical American expatriate who encounters a former lover, with unforeseen complications. Because of the landing of the Allies in North Africa on Nov. 8, the premiere and release of the film were moved up from June 1943 to November 1942, when it was premiered in NYC on Thanksgiving Day. The general nationwide release followed on Jan. 23, 1943, during the Roosevelt-Churchill conferences in Casablanca.
